transpixel This lovely car received a lot of love. My own love story with this car is rather short.
I spotted this lovely machine at the host hotel during registration for Back to the 50's in Minnesota. I am an Oldsmobile lover. The car was not only lovely, it was for sale.
The condition was superb, my friends were encouraging me, cash was in hand, the trailer was empty. But I was concerned about the price. Was it too high? It was not negotiable. Maybe it would be in time?
Fast-forward eight months...I can't get the car out of my mind. I finally decided to pull the trigger and pay his price. The car is just so lovely!
The previous owners fell in love in a car just like this. Some thirty years later, they spotted this beauty at a car show. It was for sale. They loved it.
Over the next couple of years, the car went through a very thorough and correct cosmetic restoration. The body was completely stripped and smoothed. One small soft spot in a fender was patched with metal. The correct paint was applied, color-sanded and buffed.
Much of the chrome was replaced with NOS pieces. The balance was replated. The stainless was straightened and polished. New glass and weather-stripping was installed. A correct Fulton sunvisor was painted to match and installed.
The owner went to Oregon to visit SMS Interiors. The correct materials were sourced to reupholster the interior to original specifications. Seat belts were added. transpixel

transpixel Much of the interior chrome was replaced. Everything was polished or painted. New weatherstrips/whiskers were installed. All features were repaired or adjusted to work correctly.
Trh transmission was rebuilt to 1955 specifications for more enjoyable driving. The engine was cleaned and detailed, the carburetor was rebuilt. A PVC system was installed. New exhaust and suspension components were installed. The electrical system was upgraded.
New tires were installed on correctly painted wheels. Lovely Oldsmobile wire wheel covers were sourced, polished and installed. No detail was left unattended.
The next 24 years were spent enjoying the car, driving to regional shows and appreciating the commradre of Oldsmobile lovers nationwide. Over 20,000 miles were added to an abnormally low odometer reading. Today the odometer reads 72,530 and the mileage is actual.
Moving to a warmer climate and getting older provided consideration of a bit newer Oldsmobile with more creature comfort features. I believe a '62 Starfire will be next.
The love affair with this car started in Lincoln, Nebraska and a couple of Oldsmobile collectors had enjoyed the car before these folks. It is mind boggling to realize this lovely machine is sixty years old. Only the pride of ownership and love for a fabulous Oldsmobile could have kept it in such great condition. The car is in phenominal condition and is ready for another quarter of a century of love by the next owner. transpixel
